Six-day delivery cut to one for emergency COVID-19 response
In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UK’s National Health Service needed rapid deployment of HVAC systems in temporary field hospitals. Danfoss and Digicon acted immediately when asked to supply high-IP-rated HVAC drives for new mini-hospitals being constructed across rural locations. Originally quoted for a six-day delivery, Danfoss’s Gråsten factory expedited the order within 24 hours.
These IP66-rated FC102 drives were essential for outdoor installation, saving critical indoor space and ensuring fast deployment. Digicon worked closely with NHS trusts to coordinate technical requirements and minimise delays. The rapid response helped get a prototype field hospital operational, keeping patients local and easing pressure on central hospitals.
HVAC control is vital in medical environments, where exact airflow, temperature, and pressure can mean the difference between infection containment and outbreak. Digicon had already been supporting hospitals like Warwick and Kettering General with energy-saving drive systems, so their expertise in hospital-grade installations made them the perfect delivery partner for this urgent task.
The field units weren’t just fast, they were reliable. Designed to maintain optimal environmental control across sterile and high-risk areas, Danfoss variable speed drives now support stable airflow in a time when air quality is everything.
Beyond the emergency field hospitals, Digicon’s HVAC drive installations have delivered energy efficiency and reliability to long-standing NHS facilities. At Warwick Hospital, VSDs were installed for AHUs and heating pumps, integrated directly with the BMS to reduce energy bills and operational strain. The response time from Digicon engineers was under three hours during a post-install query, proving both product and service reliability. Hospitals saw improved environmental control, fewer disruptions, and strong technical support every step of the way.
Hospitals consume massive energy across fans, pumps, cooling towers, and cleanrooms, up to 40% of total usage. Danfoss inverter drives adjust motor speed to demand, saving 10–25% on HVAC energy costs. The ability to stabilise pressure across wards also supports infection control.
Modern hospitals now rely on intelligent VSDs for efficient airflow, especially in areas like ICU, NICU, and surgical theatres. For both fixed facilities and emergency sites, Danfoss and Digicon provide solutions that deliver performance, reliability, and savings.
Our engineers are available across the UK to help hospitals and essential services get up and running without delay.

Throughout the UK, we’ve supported multiple NHS hospitals with urgent drive installations and long-term HVAC upgrades.
We used Danfoss FC102 drives with IP66 enclosures ideal for outdoor, compact, and fast deployment installations.
In this case, a 6-day lead time was reduced to 1 day. We have huge amounts of stock available for immediate delivery.
By regulating airflow and maintaining room pressure, drives support the containment of airborne pathogens between wards.
Our NHS installations show 10–25% savings through demand-driven airflow and BMS integration.
